Background
1. The petroleum & chemical industry has seen robust growth over the past years and many leading petrochemical companies find their homes in Singapore. This booming industry has also led to an increase in the storage of petroleum and flammable materials. The hazards of storing bulk flammable materials include fires, explosions and HazMat spillages. Any incident that occurs in these premises may lead to loss of lives and properties, mass panic and major disruption to business processes. There is thus a need for these premises to have competent, in-house response teams to mitigate these incidents at the initial stage to prevent them from spreading beyond the incident origin and escalating into major disasters.

The Zero GST Warehouse Scheme (ZGS) comes into effect on 1 Jan 2006. This article explains how a zero-GST (ZG) warehouse works, the qualifying criteria of the scheme and the responsibilities of operating one.
WHAT IS THE ZGS?
The ZGS is administered by Singapore Customs (SC), for companies who wish to suspend GST on their imported goods. There are three licence types, namely Warehouse Type I, Type II and Type III, to cater to the different needs of companies.
